Today's reflection [ Ayah 6-7, Surah Al-Baqarah]
As for those who have rejected (these truths), it is all the same whether or not you warn them, for they will not believe. (2:6)
Allah has sealed their hearts and their hearing, and a covering has fallen over their eyes. They deserve severe chastisement. (2:7)
The meaning of the word 'kafaroo' كَفَرُوا is to cover . In shariah it means to not accept the facts brought by the true religion or to conceal them or to ignore them. And these kind of people are called Kafiroon.
Allah made the duty of his messengers to invite mankind to His deen whether they believe or not. Because only Allah knows who will believe and who will not. The virtues of it is so deep. In the present ayah meaning is, Allah said to his beloved prophet (SAWS) not to feel sorry for the people who do not take heed. It is their bad lack, that they don't take the deen seriously and they’re not seekers of guidance!
When sin is committed once, there is black mark on the heart and If the one who commits sins regrets and repents the heart will shine again and if he repeats the sin, that stain will increase. Consequently, it comes to a certain degree that the stain covers the whole heart like a sheath.
“Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing, and over their vision is a veil. And for them is a great punishment”.
SubhanAllah, how perfectly Allah has placed the words. Now we can understand guidance is also in our hearts, in our hearing and in our vision. These people have a heart without feelings, they have ears but they don’t listen to the truth. Allah says in their eyes there is a cover . Cover means they see, but they don’t see, like they see the messenger but they don’t see him in perfect character. As we know prophet Muhammad (SAWS) didn’t undertake any action out of his personal desire or will. “God has sent me to perfect good manners and to do good deeds.”
