Will they not then ponder on the Qur'an? If it had been from other than Allah they would have found therein much incongruity.
Surah Nisa: Ayah 82
In this ayah Allah asks us to reflect over the Quran. What does it mean to do Tadabbur? This word is derived from the root da ba ra. Which means to turn ones back or the back of something.
How can we connect this to contemplating? What is our relationship with the Quran? How fast do we read it and how often do we stop to think what this ayah means?
Tadabbur in essence means to delve deeper. If we need to see whats behind something , for example what is behind a closed door or what is behind a pile of things in our closet , What do we do? We exert more pressure and more effort to reach the depth. This is why Tadabbur has been used in these ayahs and Allah has not chosen other words like unzur (to see).
We only understand the translation if we see the Quran from the surface. But if we delve deeper by going through detailed studying which further creates Tadabbur in our hearts we will be in a better position to apply these teachings and take advantage of the guidance given to us by our Creator.
Creating love for the Quran in our hearts and understanding the purpose behind revelation of these divine verses can help us make connections of the ayahs to our daily life scenarios.
أَفَلاَ يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْءَانَ أَمْ عَلَى قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَآ
“Do they not then think deeply in the Qur’an, or are their hearts locked up (from understanding it).”
Surah Muhammed : Ayah 24
This elucidates why Allah has compared locked hearts in this ayah to those who do not contemplate upon His divine verses. It is crucial for man to hence learn Arabic and also deeply reflect on the exegesis of the Quran. Many times the Sahabahs have been reported to have repeated the same verse over and over again in their recitations during Salah or otherwise in order to entirely absorb the meaning and put it into practice in their day to day lives.
We at Husnulniyyah wish to extend our contemplations to the muslim Ummah to make it easier upon them to carry out the same command Allah gave us in Surah Nisa. Learning the meaning of the Quran is the only way to be able to implement it in ones life. For many of us we might not have access to the right resources or opportunities to be able to reflect on the words of Allah. This blog intends to help us reach out to our sisters for the purpose of understanding and recognizing the divinity of the Holy Quran. As attaining true success cannot be achieved without righteous actions and righteousness cannot be acheived without true knowledge and true knowledge cannot be acheived if we do not share it with others. May Allah help us in acheiving this niyyah, Husn - ul - niyyah.
