Today's Reflection (Ayah 58-59, Surah Al-Baqarah)
And recall that We said, “Enter this town, and eat plentifully from it whatever you wish; but enter the gate humbly, and say, 'Pardon.' We will forgive your sins, and give increase to the virtuous.” (Quran 2:58)
But the wrongdoers among them substituted words other than those given to them, so We sent down on the wrongdoers a plague from heaven, because of their wicked behavior. (Quran 2:59)
Allah says in this ayah and remember when I commanded you (the people of Bani Israel) to go to this town, eat and drink in it freely and enter it with sujood (prostration), humbling yourselves and seek forgiveness. Here the word used for seeking forgiveness is hittah but instead what they did ,it is mentioned in the next ayah that they changed the word ( Allah’s speech). They changed the word hittah to hintah which completely changed the meaning of the word. Hittah means seeking forgiveness where as hintah means wheat. This way they were trying to mock Allahs kalam (Astagfirullah). And they entered the city with ingratitude and arrogance.
The ayah continues in which Allah says, he sent upon the people who wronged (changed the speech of Allah ) a filthy punishment from the sky. A plague was sent to them from the sky.
They changed a word, and they invited Allahs anger. How many of us still do not know how to read the Quran in the correct manner, with proper tajweed (recitation rules) ? I am aware that when we make mistakes in reading the Quran it is unintentional but we have the facility of learning the proper Tajweed from our homes now and how many of us take the advantage of the Islamic beneficial classes that are available online these days?
Rethink dear sisters and brothers, by not reading with the correct pronunciation we are changing the meaning of the words of the Quran. Aren’t we committing a grave mistake?
Of course Allah is Al Ghafoor, the most forgiving but it is our responsibility as a Muslim to give the full right of the Quran as it deserves.
May Allah forgive our mistakes and guide us to learn the Deen in the best manner. May Allah give us the Hidaya to apply it in our lives.
